Hopefully you found a Pirates’ Booty over the weekend. In our case it was wine and rum. Join us this Friday 02/01/2019 from 6-8pm to taste wines from Italy, hosted by Alexandra from Vino Veritas, and featuring wines from Casa di Monte. $10 per person to attend and BYOG bring your own glass.
A little History of Casa di Monte – Angelo Oreste Simoncini born in Montespertoli (Florence) in 1872 began his career as a farmer at the end of the nineteenth century as a producer of straw hats and, with the help of about sixty seasonal workers, he transformed the manufacture of braided straw hats which became known as the “Hat of Florence” revered all over the world.
On July 5, 1912, he bought the buildings in the “Casa di Monte” site in Montespertoli, with about 10 hectares of land, which today constitutes the company center. The main body consists of a watchtower from the year 1000, enlarged between 1300 and 1700 and used as rural dwellings. In 1924 production of hay straw ceased due to the arrival on the market of competing products from Asia.
The Agricultural Company thus replaced the cultivation of cereals with new plants of vines and olives. In the same year he bought other land adjacent to the original body. In 1973 the company passed through testamentary succession to the current owners who thus began a direct-cultivation management. Between 1997 and 1999 the property covers an area of 54 hectares with a marked wine-growing region typical of Chianti.
See you wine cats when you get here!
